Books
My shelves are covered with lots of cookery books but 1 basic one I started off with and to be honest although I like to look through the others they are often for inspiration these days rather than following recipes to the letter. I often these days think about what I have in and work from there sometimes consulting a book or two to see what goes well with the ingredients I have.
My basic book is ‘Every day Cook Book’ by a famous kitchen economist Marguerite Pattern who taught people how to eat well on their rations in the war but has written several good books. The one my mother has and then I recently bought for my now student daughter is ‘How to Cook’ from the Good Housekeeping magazine. Regularly updated this book and my book by Marguerite not only have recipes in them but teach how to find good cuts of meat both economical and expensive. The recipes also range from the most simple to very complicated thus suiting every cook.
